If you’ve been following my blog over the last few weeks then you’ll know that I’ve been running a facebook group which gives out advice for blogging, business and Instagram. It’s a community that I’ve built with the intention of everyone getting to know each other and to learn from each other and something that I’ll be touching on soon is digital mock ups and how I’ve found them to be helpful when trying to grow a business.
So, I came across digital mock ups a while ago when I was curious about how members of my group who were intending on selling merch or running their etsy stores could easily use a service which allows them to see all of their designs at once or apply their designs without any extra hassle. I then came across mock-ups and began to look into them, I couldn’t decide to begin with what I thought about them and how I’d use them, but the more research that I did meant that I was able to understand mock-ups and come up with an imaginary game plan which I could use as an example when I talk about mock-ups in the group over the next few weeks.
So, I’m using this as a bit of a head start to introduce this service and also explain it, also using it as a cheeky way to get you to check out my group and become a member if it takes your fancy. You can join by clicking the “Join the community” button at the top of this page.
So… What is a digital mock up exactly?
A mock-up is a template which you can use to create your designs for your stores or merch. The most popular mock-up that I’ve come across is t-shirts, so you buy the mock up and simply add your design to the t-shirt to see how it would look, it’s a great way to get around copyright since you’ll own the template and it also helps to give you a clear idea of how your designs will look when they’re actually on the product that you’re intending to sell.
What services can I use?
The best service that I’ve found so far was Design Bundles, it’s the only website that I found easy to use and think that a beginner would easily navigate. There’s also mock-ups for everything and a very wide variety of designs to choose from for all sorts of niches. This website also helped me to grasp more of an understanding of mock-ups and how they’re good business practice through the easy to understand descriptions.
What are three ways that I can use them to enhance my business?
- You can show your customers what they’re buying
I’ve made the mistake once or twice of ordering something without seeing how it actually looks, I thought the design looked cute, and when it arrived, it was a huge bloated image on a product that it didn’t fit on to. Disappointing, and I’m sure the seller didn’t realise this either. So, by using a mock up and adding your design to a product in Photoshop, you can see and your customers can see, what they’re going to get.
- It’s less time consuming
If you were to create the template yourself you’d be spending a lot more time doing it, with the mock-up readily available you’re going to be saving a lot of time and energy and you can focus on creating new designs or offering better customer service.
- It’s easy!
This is the thing, I’m not about cutting corners but I am about making life easier when I know it’s worth it. If I’m ever going to sell anything, whether it’s merch or I open up an etsy store, I want to be able to create my products and implement my designs with ease, I don’t want it to be a stressful experience, which is why this is so appealing. The easier of a time you have creating your products, the more fun it will be.
