Back in February I decided to go blonde for the first time. It was always something I’d joked about doing but not something I ever saw myself actually doing. When I decided I was going blonde, it was on a whim and I didn’t put loads of thought into it.
There’s a lot of things that I wish I knew and researched before going blonde. It was a long process getting my hair to even go blonde and not orange, and it wasn’t super expensive but it did take a bit out of my pocket and has been doing since I got it done, since obviously roots are a thing.
The amount bleach hurts depends on your cycle
For girls anyway. I once asked my hair dresser why the bleach was hurting so much, when it never usually did. By hurting, I don’t mean it’s painful, it’s just seriously itchy. She told me that she noticed that depending on where she was in her own cycle, the bleach hurt more. I came on my period that day, proving the theory. I was bleached twice after that time and it barely felt like anything.
It’s a long process until you finally hit the right blonde
Throughout my entire blonde stage I’ve been finding it pretty difficult to hit the right blonde, I normally go yellow very fast and it’s not a good look, I do believe that I’ve found the right blonde now, and have done for a little while. It’s so good when you finally hit the right shade.
It can wash you out
Now that it’s Autumn, I’ve lost my Summer glow that I had, and I feel like my skin is looking very pasty lately and the blonde isn’t helping with my cause. There are options for this, like fake tan or a bronzer, so it’s not the end of the world but it is something I didn’t consider happening.
Silver shampoo is amazing
My sister Lauren had ombre hair a few years ago and she always used silver shampoo. I didn’t see or understand why, but since I’ve gone blonde, I’ve loved it. You get a really nice tint in your hair off it and it keeps your blonde from going yellow. It’s also really good for keeping your hair shiny and healthy looking which is a bonus.
I have naturally brunette hair, and my hair also grows fast. I intentionally tied my hair up when I was taking these pictures so I could show off how bad my roots are at the minute, it’s not really a good look and I get that Miley can pull it off, but I can’t. I’ve been getting my roots redone every 2-3 months depending on how I feel, I can let them get really long and just tie my hair up like I have been or I let them show and go and get them covered, and toned.
How dry your hair gets
My hair can get pretty dry thanks to being blonde, I condition my hair more regularly than I did before and I even started using those anti-heat sprays which I never used to feel the need to do. It gets dry because of all of the bleach obviously, and since I’ve toned it grey a couple of times I’ve had all of my hair bleached multiple times and not just the roots.
I genuinely do like being blonde, it was a nice change and something I’d never done before. However, I’m ditching being a blonde pretty soon. I’ve been feeling bored of my hair and a little bit uninspired by it. I like to switch up my hair, you know this if you’ve been following me from the start, but since I’m growing it out there isn’t a lot I can do style wise, so back to the salon and back to the dye I go!
