I’ve been doing my bedroom up for the past few weeks now, it’s still unfinished and there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done. For example, I hate my copper lamp and it needs to be replaced ASAP, and my curtains resemble shower curtains – not keen at all. But here’s a little progress update on how I’ve been doing with my space.
To be honest, I think the bedroom is nearly finished. It’s just a couple of finishing touches that are needed and I’m not in any rush at the minute to add those since it’s things that aren’t necessary like my furniture was, I’d like a few prints and I need to replace my fairy lights around my giant mirror since I broke them and only the sides work, but also because I spotted some prettier ones when I was looking around the shops with my mum. I kind of decided there and then that my lights were vile, but again, nothing that needs tending to right away.
My old bed was that Ikea bed you see literally everyone having, it’s in all the movies, music videos and insta pics. I liked it, but it was really creaky and since I’d had it for over a year, I felt like I’d gone off it a little bit. This bed was a mission to get, let me tell you that. I had to wait for it to arrive forever and it’s super heavy so getting it up the stairs without dropping it or without falling down myself, was a task.
As for bedding, I was really sad to see my Cath Kidston bedding go since I loved it, but because it was white, pink, blue and yellow it didn’t look good against my grey bed, but I do actually really love my darker bedding and I got it quite cheap so I’m not complaining too much.
Now, I absolutely hate this copper lamp since I updated my furniture. There’s nothing wrong with it. But it just doesn’t fit in with my bedroom – at all. It looks terrible. But, I’ve got my eye on a replacement but with Christmas coming up, I’m holding off buying it *and praying it’ll still be in stock*. My bedside table is generally pretty bare though, I charge my iPhone on it and keep my glasses on my bedside table when I’m not wearing them. The drawer is tiny too so I keep my drawing pad in there and my hairbrush.
My drawers are my favourite purchase all year, I think they’re so lovely. I’m planning on replacing the knobs with something a little bit prettier since I’m not a fan of these industrial looking ones, but I like to keep them looking bare with just my perfumes on display on top of them.
I got this ottoman because in my older drawers, I had a hard time with storage for my bedding and for my pyjamas, and as a solution I thought this ottoman holding all of my bedding inside was a good way to go. I actually really like it because it fills the corner nicely and I’ve had a hard time with this specific corner since the bedroom became just mine, I tried using my mirror to fill this corner but I just didn’t like it. The ottoman looks much better and it’s useful.
This mirror is another favourite purchase of the year, I got it for an absolute bargain too at only £6.99 – reduced for more than half of the original price. It’s pretty massive as well and fills the wall a lot better than my old mirror did, I also think it just looks more aesthetically pleasing and it fits the wall really well. It’s a bit on the heavy side though, so I don’t intend on taking this down on my own – ever.
I was worried about this wall, I used to have a mirror on it that was supposed to be one that you stand up, and because it was white, it looked like it was just the wall coming out at you. I had a lot of white in my bedroom before and it just looked a little too sterile, and it was driving me a bit mad. This mirror just adds what the other one was lacking in, diversity.
My absolute favourite thing in my bedroom is my Apollonia Saint Clair print, I love it, and I’d wanted one for ages. It took a while to arrive since it was from America but I love it so much. I think all of the artwork that Apollonia Saint Clair produces is just fantastic anyway, but it’s definitely a little bit NSFW and I still live at home, so I don’t want my parents coming in my bedroom and seeing some… risky, artwork.
In the other corner of my room I have my mirror that has all of my jewellery inside, and hanging on it I keep my Moschino bag. I was debating on getting rid of this, but since it’s such a handy storage space for my jewellery, and there’s nothing wrong with it anyway, I decided on keeping it and I’m glad I did, since it fills the other corner of my room nicely.
My bedroom has been a fun little project, and I haven’t totally redecorated it in over a year so it was fun to switch it up and we even painted my doors grey to match the furniture, and the room feels a lot cosier now than it did before, and my new furniture has even given me more space to roam about since the Ikea furniture, as nice as it was, was just really big and bulky. There’s a lot of pros to changing your room around (even if it is an expensive project), and I always find it good for my mentality to switch it up every now and again. Getting rid of my TV was the best thing that I did as well, I didn’t watch it often and I don’t play video games that much anymore so it made sense for me to get rid of it, any time I want to watch TV I just watch it on my Macbook and it just felt like it was taking up space that could be used more efficiently.
I’m so pleased with my rooms new look though, and I saved pretty hard to get all my new furniture. The fun begins now, with accessorising it. I might do an updated post but it won’t be like this since you don’t need to see the same thing twice.
