Trends? What are those? Do they really matter as long as you’re doing what makes you happy?
TLDR – the answer is an obvious no. So let me ask you this: Why are we so bothered by what other people think of us?
I used to be so bothered by what certain people thought of me, I used to mirror them and like what they liked just because they liked it, I used to dress like them and force myself to follow their lead, a year and a wave goodbye later, I’m beginning to be myself again, I’m liking what I like because I like it, dressing how I dress because I feel like it and I’m not worried about what everyone thinks.
Your parents are the apple of your eye, right? But let me tell you, I love my mum so much and she loves me too, but she definitely wouldn’t be caught dead in some of the things I wear, but does she make snide comments and put me down because I’m wearing an outfit that makes me happy? Uh, no, but even if she was, the most important person in my life, it wouldn’t stop me.
So if the most important person in my life disagreeing with things I like, things I wear and things I do doesn’t stop me from being myself, why would what someone on the internet or a passerby in the street affect my feelings? They shouldn’t, they couldn’t and they won’t.
I suppose the message I’m trying to convey here is, I love being true to myself. Ever since I stopped trying to be like everyone else around me, I’ve felt so good about myself, and everyone on the internet preaches it and I never realised how much of an amazing difference it makes to your life once you really start to just do you and stop worrying about everyone else.
So, reader, stop worrying so much about everyone around you and you do you.
